Does Merck really support Animal Rights?

Merck takes a poor position on animal rights in that it does not believe that animals should have any legal rights. Merck believes that animals are property and should be used for human purposes. This position is based on the idea that animals do not have the same level of intelligence or capacity for suffering as humans, and therefore they can be treated in a way that would be unthinkable for a human. This position is flawed for a number of reasons. First, animals can suffer and feel pain just as humans do. Second, animals are capable of forming complex social relationships and experiencing a wide range of emotions. Finally, humans are not the only ones who can benefit from relationships with animals - animals can also provide important benefits to humans.
