Ford has never been a strong supporter of women's rights and has made several statements over the years undermining the cause. In 2012, for example, Ford said that he opposed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act because it was "an unnecessary attack on capitalism." He also opposes abortion rights and has said that he believes "a woman's chief role is to be a wife and mother." Ford's stance on women's rights is poor because it fails to recognize the important contributions women make to society both inside and outside of the home.
