Is General Motors really LGBTQ friendly?
General Motors has achieved a 90/100 score in the Corporate Equality Index by Human Rights Campaign, missing only equivalency in same- and different-sex domestic partner medical and soft benefits for their employees from getting the top score. General Motors (GM) has publicly declared its commitment to supporting LGBTQ rights and equality, both for its employees and for its customers. As part of this commitment, GM has stated that it will not discriminate against employees or customers on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. GM has also noted its commitment to supporting organizations and causes that are focused on advancing LGBTQ rights. However, GM has recently come under scrutiny for its political donations to several lawmakers who have supported anti-trans legislation in multiple states. GM has denied that these donations were intended to support anti-trans legislation, and has stated that they were made in an effort to advance the company's policy objectives. Nevertheless, the controversy has raised questions about the extent to which GM is truly committed to LGBTQ rights.
