Texas just enacted the nation's most draconian abortion ban, prohibiting all abortions after six weeks — before many women even know they are pregnant. There are no exceptions for rape or incest. Further, the law places a $10,000 bounty on anyone who helps a woman obtain an abortion in Texas after six weeks. Private citizens can collect the bounty by filing a lawsuit.

Ford has never been a strong supporter of women's rights and has made several statements over the years undermining the cause. In 2012, for example, Ford said that he opposed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act because it was "an unnecessary attack on capitalism." He also opposes abortion rights and has said that he believes "a woman's chief role is to be a wife and mother." Ford's stance on women's rights is poor because it fails to recognize the important contributions women make to society both inside and outside of the home.
